A Frame of Mind Family Dog Training
|

Kristen VanNess:
I became interested in training dogs when I took
classes with my wild puppy. There was always
more to learn and do with him. I love helping
people learn to have a better relationship with
their animals and I love hearing all the great
stories about very special dogs.
In early 2008 I became a Certified Training Partner
through the Karen Pryor Academy for Training
and Behavior. This involved extensive learning
about both training dogs and teaching people. I
also have level one certification through TAG
Teach International.
I enjoy working with kids and am involved in
youth programs. I present the "Be a Tree" dog
bite prevention program to elementary school
classrooms. I am an advisor in Licking County
with the Patchwork Pals 4-H (dog/misc) Club and
a member of the Ohio 4-H Dog Committee.
Additionally, I volunteer at Second Chance
Humane Society.
I have three happy dogs. Blaze is an nine year
old Golden Retriever, Luna is a six year old mix
breed. Griffin is a two year old Golden Retriever
who is spending every day learning and working
towards his future careers in agility and
obedience. My dogs and I currently compete in
APDT Rally, AKC Rally, and CPE agility.
In another of my youth projects, I am a co-director
and instructor at The Ohio 4H Teen Dog
Experience. This camp is for 4-H members who
would like to learn more about dog behavior,
competition training, basic care, and leadership.
from all over the state and who are at various
levels of experience. The OTDE presented at
the 2009 and 2010 Ohio 4-H Teen Conference to
help teens and 4-H educators learn more about
how teens can assist each other in learning for
projects and how to be better animal trainers.
